Again, this is the month where the elections take place for the new exeuctive.  If you have been sitting on the fence, now is the time to decide :-).  Let Micki or Pauline know if you'd like to jump in and enjoy helping the guild and planning fun activites for fellow quilters to enjoy.  This is your chance to make a difference and share your ideas and talents.   A link to the constitution is posted on the sidebar of the blog  with descriptions of each position.

Signups will also be available for a workshop taught by Becky Goldsmith who will be presenting at our guild in September.  The workshop will be on the Friday after our regular meeting.

Banquet will be June 13, 2013 at Windemere Manor.  There will be a murder mystery acted out at the banquet which should be a lot of fun.  There will be a chance to win some great prizes, enjoy a delicious dinner and share an evening out with fellow quilters.

NEW - We are going to try a summer workshop this year if there is enough interest.  The  Church has been book for Saturday July 20, 2013 from 10:00 to 4:00.  You can work on your own projects or on Community Quilts.  There is no cost for members, but we ask that you sign up so we know how many to expect and we can remind you.  Great way to keep in touch over the summer!

Ruth Kennedy Workshop - April 20, 2013

Members of the London Friendship Quilt guild had a great time on Saturday stretching themselves to learn a new technique taught by Ruth Kennedy.  There will be a lot of potholders after this workshop LOL!!  After the first block, many of us saw a bit of an improvement in our second blocks and learned a lot in the process.  Here are some pictures of the day.  This is the class sample that we were aiming to make:

SHOWS
Check out the side bar of the blog for upcoming Quilt shows.  There are a lot of shows coming up so no shortage of inspiration!!  This weekend is the Mississauga Show and the Grand National Show opens.  The Burlington Guild show is on the weekend of April 28th and the first weekend in May has 4 or 5 shows on the same weekend.  Lots of chances to indulge our hobby :-).

April meeting

The April meeting of the London Friendship Quilt guild was held last week and a good time was had by all those who were able to make it.  We almost had to cancel the meeting due to the threat of freezing rain, but our vendor of the month and speaker were both able to make it and get home safely before the storm hit. Our vendor of the month was Bert from Grantham books.  He brought a lot of books along for us to browse through.  A lot of the books found happy new homes :-).

Bert from Grantham Books:

Happily shopping through the book selection:

During the break members could take books our from our well stocked library:

Our speaker for the evening was Ruth Kennedy of Fergus.  She presented a trunk show, "Finding my Wings" and we enjoyed seeing her lovely quilts!

Some of Ruth's  quilts (apologies for the lighting...there was a fluorescent light right above the quilts, so the colouring on some of these quilts is a little off)

This is the project we will be doing in the workshop this Saturday (Reminder to the members taking the workshop...it's this Saturday, April 20th at the Church from 9:00 to 4:00):

Ruth Kennedy's workshop scheduled for April 20th (that is a week later than the meeting!) is full.

It is time to think about how you can help out your Quilt guild!  Serving on a committee and/or the executive, or volunteering to help out one of the executive members on occasion is a great way to get to know other members of the guild.  We have a lot of fun at our executive meetings and enjoy planning out fun ways to enjoy our shared hobby.  Let Pauline or Micki know if you would like more information on what is involved.   A link to the constitution will be posted on the sidebar of the blog soon which also has descriptions of each position.

March 14, 2013 Guild meeting

The London Friendship Guild held their regular meeting the second Thursday in March.  Gerald Fagan was our guest speaker and shared some of the lovely antique quilts that will be shown at a show in Exeter next week.  This show is well worth attending and the little preview was already a treat.

Gerald Fagan sharing his passion for antique quilts:

Here are a few of the lovely quilts that Gerald brought to entice us to go to the show :-):

Red and white is always striking:

Lovely signature quilt:

Lots of little pieces in this one:

An amazing quilt which may have been made by a sailor:

We also enjoyed show and share by several of our executive members who showed their first quilt, a quilt they are currently working on and a project they made in a guild workshop as well as the annual rummage sale for our outreach program.
