Quilters on Vacation! Nova Scotia and Pennsylvania

As summer approaches many of us are planning vacations or getaways. Many of us try and find the nearest quilt store. This summer, let us know what you have found so we can share it with our blog readers and maybe they can check them out too!

Gail M sent me her finds from her vacation last year in Nova Scotia. Suttles and Seawinds is a quilt store in Mahone Bay, Nova Scotia. Gail says this,"Beautiful fabrics in a lovel lofty building--lots of quilts on display for inspiration,--I spent an hour there while my family waited patiently." Another store she found was in Antigonish, NS called Harbour Quilt Company, located in an old house down a country road.

During the March Break she visited Intercourse, PA and visited the People's Place Quilt Museum that featured 6 Quilts from Fons & Porter.

So, LFQGuild members, if you find a great quilt place that you want to share with us, just email me with a pic or 2 and a link. That would be great!

Russian Rug Workshop

About 12 women joined Gail M for the President's workshop on traditional Russian rug making. The rugs are composed of triangles folded "beak-like" and arranged in a circle. A wonderful project that uses up scraps!

Guild Challenge and AGM

What an amazing bunch of entries! We had 36 pieces entered (by the way, I counted only 35 photos, so if I am missing yours, please email me a photo so I can add it to the flickr page) and as I promised you can view them all here.

As review, each guild member was given a fat quarter of Laurel Burch's Ocean's Song fabric and asked to create something quilted with it. The membership voted for their favourite piece and boy, was it ever hard! There was so much to choose from, so much creativity out there! I am proud of all those that entered!

First Place: Jill B (Jill, by the way, has another piece showing at the Grand National at the Kitchener-Waterloo Art Gallery)

Second Place: Beth M

Third Place: Cynthia N

Congratulations ladies! What a great job!

We received a heart felt thank you note from Don Wright, Lily's husband, for the guild members' support to their family in their time of sorrow.

We received thank you's from the CQA for our donation of table toppers and other assorted items, as well as thanking us for our Silver Thimble donation that will go toward the TrendTex Challenge prizes.

The guild thanked Gail for her time and effort conducting a workshop on the traditional craft of Russian rug making.

The guild will be giving a donation to St. George's Presbyterian Church as a thank you for the use of the Church for guild business.

The Reports were made by each of the executive members and will be available in the library.
